The glorious month of Ramadan is just round the corner, the month that brings us the blessed opportunity of self-purification and the chance to draw nearer to Almighty Allah (swt). The month in which the devils are chained, and the doors of paradise are opened, inviting us to enter the grace of Almighty Allah with humility and repentance. This is the month for us to reflect, assess and ponder upon our deeds and actions, to reaffirm our Iman and Taqwa and to establish a foundation of Ibadah which will remain strongly intact till we re-examine our selves during the next month of Ramadan. Allah, The Most Merciful, has blessed us with this prospect which gives us rigorous training in controlling our desires and to shun our bad habits. Indeed, it is a pity to let go of this month, without squeezing out each and every single drop of blessing, which will be flowing in abundance. Not making use of this month will certainly be the ruin of us. May Allah, The Most Kind, protect us from such ruin. We,at Al Manar Centre do not want this superb fountain of blessings to flit pass without any gain, and neither do you. Al Manar Centre would like to present to you the Ramadan Fest in Dubai a programme packed with Islamic talks, courses, competitions and lectures which is due to be held during the month of Ramadan, Insha Allah. These programmes will be conducted in Urdu, Malayalam and Tagalog as well as English to ensure that each and every one of you will be able to join us in this venture and assist us in purifying ourselves and vice versa. May Almighty Allah bless us with this endeavour and fulfil yours and our intention of making best use of this blessed month. May he, The Most Beneficent, accept our paltry efforts of righteous actions, in his mercy, and grant us guidance. Anas Ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "Whilst we were in the Mosque with the Messenger of Allah a Bedouin came and stood urinating in the Mosque. The Companions of the Messenger of Allah said, 'Stop it! Stop it!' and were about to attack him. But the Messenger of Allah said, 'Do not interrupt him; leave him alone.' So they left him until he had finished urinating, then the Messenger of Allah called him and said to him, 'In these Mosques it is not right to do anything like urinating or defecating; they are only for remembering Allaah, praying and reading Qur'aan,' or words to that effect. Then he commanded a man who was there to bring a bucket of water and throw it over the (urine), and he did so." (Muslim)

The principle which the Prophet followed in dealing with this mistake was to treat the man gently, not to be harsh with him.

The Prophet was thinking of the likely consequences of the two options - stopping him or leaving him alone. If they tried to stop him, forcing a man to suppress his urination could do him harm, and if he was unable to stop but moved away because he was afraid of them, the impurity would be spread over a wider area of the Mosque and on the man's body and clothing. The Prophet had the farsightedness to see that leaving the man alone until he had finished urinating was the lesser of two evils, especially since the man had already started doing it, and it was a problem that they would be able to do something about by cleaning it afterwards. So he told his companions to leave him alone and not to interrupt him.

Ibn Hajar mentioned in his commentary a number of things we learn from the hadith about the Bedouin, among which are the following:

- We should be gentle when dealing with one who is ignorant and teach him what he needs to know without rebuking him, so long as he is not acting out of stubbornness, especially if he is one who needs to be won over.

- The Prophet was kind and he dealt nicely with him.

- The idea of taking precautions against impurity was established well in the minds of the Sahabah (Prophet's companions), which is why they hastened to denounce it in the presence of the Prophet without first asking his permission. The idea of enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil was also well established in their minds.

- We should also hasten to remove anything objectionable when there is nothing to stop us from doing so, because when the man had finished urinating, the Prophet issued instructions that the place should be cleaned with water.

Explaining the seriousness of the mistake

Ibn 'Umar, Muhammad Ibn Ka'b, Zayd Ibn Aslam and Qutadah reported (the following is compiled from their reports) that during the campaign of Tabook, a man said, "We have never seen anyone who loves food and tells lies more than our rectors, or anyone who is more cowardly in the battlefield" - referring to the Messenger of Allah and his Companions.

Awf Ibn Malik said, 'You are lying! You are a hypocrite, and I am going to tell the Messenger of Allah . ' Awf went to the Messenger of Allah to tell him, but found that Qur'aan had already been revealed concerning it. That man came to the Prophet who was riding his camel, and said, "O Messenger of Allah we were only talking idly and joking, just to pass time in the journey." Ibn 'Umar said, "It is as if I saw him hanging onto the reins of the Prophet's camel, with the stones hitting his feet, saying, "We were only talking idly and joking," whilst the Messenger of Allah was reciting (what means):

”Say: ‘Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?’” (Qur'an 9: 65)

We see that the prophet’s reply to these abominable remarks was by reciting some verses of the Qur’aan by which this man was told that Allaah and His Messenger are far above mocking. He didn’t become enraged or order that the man should be punished severely. Any one else may do that, but the Prophet was sent as a mercy to all creation and to be an example of how people should behave.

WELCOMING RAMADHAN

Ramadhan is a very important part of every Muslim’s life. Ramadhan is the month of giving and mercy, and during this month Allah blesses the believers with forgiveness and great reward. This is a time to stop and contemplate, to look inwards and out, it is a time to set our goals. We should ask ourselves what we want to achieve this month, - something we will carry into our futures.
Achievement is accomplished by change. ‘How’ and ‘what’ we change are as important to consider as ‘when’ we change. Ramadhan gives us a huge opportunity to improve ourselves and gain rewards for our actions.
Just consider how precious time is. Our time when used well can gain us much reward, but when wasted we lose something of unimaginable value.

Therefore, whoever is merciful and giving in Ramadhan, Allah will be even more Merciful and Giving towards them and will bestow upon them countless bounties and blessings.

All praises to Allah (SWT), Lord of the worlds. As revealed in the Glorious Qur’an, "Oh you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those who came before you that you may keep your duty to your Lord" 2:185.
There are many actions we can take during the month of Ramadhan which will benefit us immensely. One of these would be to take Sahoor (the pre-dawn meal) as there is great benefit in it. The greatest blessing of Sahoor may be that Allah engulfs those who partake in it with His Forgiveness, showers His Mercy on them, while His angels ask of Him to forgive and pardon them.
Reciting the Quran has much benefit as it was in this blessed month that the Qur’an was revealed to prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him).

"Verily! We have sent you (O Muhammad) with the Truth, a bearer of glad tidings and a warner; and there is not a nation but a warner has passed among them," The Holy Quran (35:24).

"Surely this Qur’an' guides to the way that is straightest and gives good tidings to the believers who do deeds of righteousness, that theirs shall be a great reward.” The Holy Quran (17 : 11).

The importance of the Qur’an cannot be presented in a few words. It is not just another book on the shelf, but it is the words of Allah, speaking to every one of us. It is direct contact with Allah Himself. This is what we should keep in mind when we read the Qur'an or think about it.
The Giving of charity also carries much blessing and the rewards, giving during the holy month will increase your reward immensely. Zakah does not only purify the property of the contributor but also purifies his heart from selfishness and greed.

The following shows us the importance of charity:

The Prophet said:'Charity is a necessity for every Muslim'. He was asked: 'What if a person has nothing?' The Prophet replied: 'He should work with his own hands for his benefit and then give something out of such earnings in charity'. The Companions asked: 'What if he is not able to work?' The Prophet said: 'He should help the poor and needy persons.' The Companions further asked 'What if he cannot do even that?' The Prophet said 'He should urge others to do good'. The Companions said 'What if he lacks that also?' The Prophet said 'They should stop themselves from doing evil. That is also charity.

Charity is not only giving money but following the above example will ensure you are giving charity as well as receiving Allah’s blessing.

Finally here is a simple du’a (supplication) written by Shahid Athar, M. D:

• Give us the knowledge, the skills and the will to serve fellow humans.

• Give us the wisdom to comfort and console all toward peace and harmony.

• Help us to alleviate human sufferings.

• Give us the strength to admit our mistakes, amend our ways, and forgive others.

• Give us the devotion to serve the poor, the hungry, the destitute and the homeless with honour, love, dignity and piety, with patience and tolerance, with knowledge and vigilance, with Thy love in our hearts, compassion for Thy servants and desire for Thy mercy for all those who are instruments of Thy healing. (Amen)

Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillah

As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu
Narrated by Abu Huraira (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) said "The blessed month has
come to you. Allah has made fasting during it obligatory upon you. During
it, the gates to Paradise are opened and the gates to hellfire are locked,
and the devils are chained. There is a night [during this month] which is
better than a thousand months. Whoever is deprived of its good is really
deprived [of something great]."
This is related by Ahmad, an-Nasa'i, and al-Baihaqi.

Narrated by Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) said "Whoever fasts the
month of Ramadan, obeying all of its limitations and guarding himself
against what is forbidden, has in fact atoned for any sins he committed
before it."
Ahmad and alBaihaqi related this hadith with a good chain.

Narrated by Ibn Abbas (Radhiallaho anho):
When Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) returned after
performing his Hajj, he asked Um Sinan Al-Ansari, "What did forbid you to
perform Hajj?" She replied, "Father of so-and-so (i.e. her husband) had two
camels and he performed Hajj on one of them, and the second is used for the
irrigation of our land." The Prophet said (to her), "Perform 'Umra in the
month of Ramadan, (as it is
equivalent to Hajj or Hajj with me (in reward)."

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

While we were sitting with the Prophet in the mosque, a man came riding on a camel. He made his camel kneel down in the mosque, tied its foreleg and then said: "Who amongst you is Muhammad?" At that time the Prophet was sitting amongst us (his companions) leaning on his arm. We replied, "This white man reclining on his arm." The an then addressed him, "O Son of 'Abdul Muttalib."

The Prophet said, "I am here to answer your questions." The man said to the Prophet, "I want to ask you something and will be hard in questioning. So do not get angry." The Prophet said, "Ask whatever you want." The man said, "I ask you by your Lord, and the Lord of those who were before you, has Allah sent you as an Apostle to all the mankind?" The Prophet replied, "By Allah, yes." The man further said, "I ask you by Allah. Has Allah ordered you to offer five prayers in a day and night (24 hours).? He replied, "By Allah, Yes." The man further said, "I ask you by Allah! Has Allah ordered you to observe fasts during this month of the year (i.e. Ramadan)?" He replied, "By Allah, Yes." The man further said, "I ask you by Allah. Has Allah ordered you to take Zakat (obligatory charity) from our rich people and distribute it amongst our poor people?" The Prophet replied, "By Allah, yes." Thereupon that man said, "I have believed in all that with which you have been sent, and I have been sent by my people as a messenger, and I am Dimam bin Tha'laba from the brothers of Bani Sa'd bin Bakr."

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

That he differed with Hur bin Qais bin Hisn Al-Fazari regarding the companion of (the Prophet) Moses. Ibn 'Abbas said that he was Khadir. Meanwhile, Ubai bin Ka'b passed by them and Ibn 'Abbas called him, saying "My friend (Hur) and I have differed regarding Moses' companion whom Moses, asked the way to meet. Have you heard the Prophet mentioning something about him? He said, "Yes. I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "While Moses was sitting in the company of some Israelites, a man came and asked him. "Do you know anyone who is more learned than you? Moses replied: "No." So Allah sent the Divine Inspiration to Moses: 'Yes, Our slave Khadir (is more learned than you.)' Moses asked (Allah) how to meet him (Khadir). So Allah made the fish as a sign for him and he was told that when the fish was lost, he should return (to the place where he had lost it) and there he would meet him (Al-Khadir). So Moses went on looking for the sign of the fish in the sea. The servant-boy of Moses said to him: Do you remember when we betook ourselves to the rock, I indeed forgot the fish, none but Satan made me forget to remember it. On that Moses said: 'That is what we have been seeking? (18.64) So they went back retracing their foot-steps, and found Khadir. (And) what happened further to them is narrated in the Holy Qur'an by Allah. (18.54 up to 18.82)

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

Sales in which a Price is Paid for Goods to be Delivered Later

Narrated Ibn Abbas:
Allah's Apostle came to Medina and the people used to pay in advance the price of fruits to be delivered within one or two years. (The sub-narrator is in doubt whether it was one to two years or two to three years.) The Prophet said, "Whoever pays money in advance for dates (to be delivered later) should pay it for known specified weight and measure (of the dates)."

Narrated Muhammad bin Al-Majalid:

Abdullah bin Shaddad and Abu Burda sent me to 'Abdullah bin Abi Aufa and told me to ask 'Abdullah whether the people in the life-time of the Prophet used to pay in advance for wheat (to be delivered later). Abdullah replied, "We used to pay in advance to the peasants of Sham for wheat, barley and olive oil of a known specified measure to be delivered in a specified period." I asked (him), "Was the price paid (in advance) to those who had the things to be delivered later?" Abdullah bin Aufa replied, "We did not use to ask them about that." Then they sent me to 'Abdur Rahman bin Abza and I asked him. He replied, "The companions of the Prophet used to practice Salam in the life-time of the Prophet; and we did not use to ask them whether they had standing crops or not."
